5PB: 4-year-olds M-F afternoons

Welcome to the Pond Room for the 2014/15 School Year!

The curriculum and activities in the Pond Room are linked to provide a consistent learning experience for all the children.

Winter Weather -- Please be sure to dress your child for the weather.  We do go out in the rain.

Field Trip Ideas -- Does anyone have ideas for field trips for our class?  We would like to go on at least one field trip together in the spring.  Some ideas we have thought of include:  A train ride, a trip to a garden shop...

ThemesOur theme for the first 2 weeks of school is All About Me and My Family.  Our themes for the entire school year are listed on this website under "School Calendar."

Weekly News from the Pond RoomBelow on this classroom page is our weekly class curriculum and classroom information. You will receive these every week from your child's take-home box as well.

News from the Pond for Week of January 26th -- Last Week, the children practiced working together in a group by playing games and singing songs with props.  We used farm animal props and books to experience the Farm theme.  The Books we read included:

  • Morning Farm
  • Barnyard Banter
  • Going to Sleep on the Farm
  • The Big Red Barn

The children also participated in 2 science and sensory activities last week.  The children made green play dough together on Tuesday.  They also observed and predicted what would happen during a water and  sponge experiment.

This Week, we will continue our Farm theme.  We will use cooking projects to explore what happens on the farm.  New Friends in the Pond Room -- We have some new students in our class.  Ask your children to tell you about them!  We are excited to have them and their parents join our community!   Sharing Suggestion -- Talk to your child about a type of food that might come from the farm.  A favorite farm book would be nice to share as well.

News from the Pond for Week of February 2nd -- Last week, we sang songs and talked about the farm.  Some of the children created artwork to decorate our classroom.  During sharing on Friday, the children enjoyed passing around the items they brought from home!  Letting other people touch toys we own is hard, but we did it!

This week, we will begin our Valentine's Day/Friendship theme.  The children will make cards for loved ones and decorate our classroom a little bit.  We will use Valentine's Day props to practice number sense skills.  Our books will be about friendship and loving relationships.

  • Sharing is always on Friday -- Our group is bigger, so we will only have time to share one item.
  • Scholastic book order forms are coming home the week of January 12th.  Families can order from the catalog online, or give a completed order form and check to the teachers.  The check should be written to Scholastic Books.  This is not a requirement.  You are free to order or not.
  • February 11th. Valentine's Day Celebration! -- We will celebrate Valentine's Day in our class by delivering Valentine's cards to each other.  We will also share a special treat!  Please send cards from your child.  Individually signed cards make the delivery process harder!

  • February 12th.-13th Parent/Teacher Conferences -- Parent teacher conferences are held on these two days in the Pond Room.  We will be using the new Sanga App to manage appointments, so please make sure the office has your correct email.  Don't forget to download the app so you can access the information.  No regular class will be held on those days; however, drop-in Enrichment and child care are available both days (7:30 am to 6:00 pm).

  • Saturday, February 14th Parents Night Out (PNO) -- Please contact the office for details.

  • Winter Break -- February 16th-20th --  Regular classes are not in session; however, F/T drop-in Holiday Care is available (for preschoolers and elementary children).

  • Visiting Days Information coming soon!

Parent Visiting Days:  Visiting Days are a time for parents to spend the school day with their child.  They will be  scheduled to take place in early spring and are assigned to families according to the children's small groups. They are intended as a time for interaction, not just observation, and to encourage the participating parent’s involvement in their child's ongoing education.  Please no siblings or use of cell phones during Visiting Days.
